Sept. 18, 2026 - AV Group NB on Sept. 17 announced the temporary idling of its pulp operations facility located in Nackawic, New Brunswick, Canada.
Av Group said the production downtime will begin around the end of October.
The mill employs approximately 350 people and has an annual production capacity of approximately 190,000 tonnes of dissolving-grade pulp.
In a press release, the company said, "The decision follows a careful assessment of the continuing challenges presented by prevailing market conditions and broader macroeconomic factors.
"AV Group NB will continue to monitor the market situation and business conditions and assess future scenarios for the facility."
AV Group noted that its other dissolving pulp mill, located in Atholville, New Brunswick, is not affected by this decision.
Established in 1997, AV Group NB is made up of of two dissolving pulp mills in New Brunswick — Nackawic and Atholville — and also manages over 1.6 million acres of company-owned and public (Crown) land under two Crown licenses. AV Group NB is a member of The Aditya Birla Group based in India.
