When Finch transitions to purchased pulp, it will no longer be necessary for the company to purchase large quantities of logs from wood suppliers in the Northeast and New England.
July 20, 2026 - Finch Paper on July 17 announced that it will no longer produce pulp at its pulp and paper mill in Glens Falls, New York. Instead, it will buy pulp on the open market.
According to a news article published online by The Chronicle, a weekly newspaper based in Glens Falls, Finch said the change will allow it to focus on the core of its business, which is producing paper.
In addition, Finch said "All of the hourly employees in the pulp mill and associated woodyard will be offered the opportunity to work in other positions throughout the company.
"Similarly, many of the affected salaried employees will also have the opportunity to be considered for open positions."
The company's decision, however, will affect the independent loggers and truckers who have supplied the mill with wood for pulp production for many years.

Professional Logging Contractors of the Northeast (PLC) voiced its concern saying the closure of the pulp mill "is a significant loss for the region's logging and trucking industry with far reaching economic consequences as well as serious negative impacts on the ability to properly manage forest health."
PLC Executive Director Dana Doran, said, "We are deeply concerned for those, including many of our own members in New York, New Hampshire and Vermont, whose livelihoods will be affected by this announcement. The Glen Falls mill is one of two pulp markets in Eastern New York that purchases wood from logging contractors from multiple states in the Northeast region, and that market is critical both to the financial survival of logging and trucking firms and to their ability to properly manage forest health. Both will suffer from its loss."
Finch manufactures uncoated papers for all markets, including commercial printing and direct mail, book publishing, financial printing, transactional printing, envelope and forms converting, labels and packaging, and specialty applications.
