IBS Group Upgrades Reel Change Process on Paper Machine for Cost-Effective Turn-Up

IBS Paper Performance Group IBS RCS Turn-Up-Systems ensure the utmost safety and efficiency during sheet transfers. Combining with IBS premium paper tapes, this technology becomes exceptionally user-friendly and minimizes waste.

April 30, 2026 - The IBS Paper Performance Group has successfully upgraded the reel change process on a packaging paper machine.

According to IBS, the project resulted in a significant increase in net production and annual savings of more than EUR 420,000. Return on investment was achieved in just a few months.

As part of the project, outdated equipment was replaced by an RCS 6000 reel change system.

"This technology provides a fully automatic sheet transfer to a new reel spool and sets a new standard for a reliable and cost-effective turn-up. To achieve maximum reel change performance, IBS Paper Tapes and double-sided IBS adhesive tapes for reel change systems are also used," IBS said in a press release.

"Folded IBS Paper Tapes are up to more than 50% thinner than conventional paper tapes made of strings. This significantly minimizes paper marks on the core of the reel spool, thereby ensuring a higher yield at the winder. Double-sided IBS Adhesive Tapes made of tear-resistant fabric ensure a reliable turn-up and can be removed from the reel spool without leaving any residue," the company added.

Based in Austria, the IBS Paper Performance Group is a leading specialist in the optimization of paper, board, pulp and tissue machines, with high-quality machine components, innovative system solutions and services.
