April 7, 2026 - Following the weekend's storm in Sweden, Södra is bringing forward the launch of its safety app, Tryggve. The app forms part of Södra's work to increase safety in the forest and enhance security for people working alone.
Handling storm-damaged forest involves significant risks. To help improve safety, Södra is now accelerating the launch of the Tryggve safety app. The app is available to everyone but has been developed with forest owners, contractors and others who spend time in forests and on land in mind.
"After a storm, we know that many people head out into the forest in conditions where the risks are greater than usual," said Emelie Sandberg, work environment specialist at Södra. "We strongly advise against working alone in storm-damaged forest, but we also want to do everything we can to improve safety. The app is ready and was due to be launched later in April, but we are releasing it now in order to provide practical support for those who work alone."
In the app, users can set a safety timer before a high-risk task or a period of movement. If the timer is not switched off in time, an alert is sent to selected emergency contacts, together with the user's last known location, enabling help to be provided more quickly if something unexpected happens. If the emergency contact calls 112 via the app, the coordinates are shown directly to SOS Alarm.
Sandberg pointed out that the Tryggve safety app should be used in addition to existing safety procedures.
"It is intended as a complement to risk assessments and other safety routines, not a replacement for them," Sandberg pointed out. "The app can also be used in other situations where you want to feel extra secure by ensuring that an emergency contact is alerted if something unexpected occurs.
"We believe that many people can benefit from Tryggve outside of forest work as well, in situations where you are alone and want to be able to get help quickly if something happens. This could include activities such as fishing, walking home alone in the evening, horse riding or cycling," Sandberg added.
Tryggve is available to download from Google Play and the App Store and is offered in both Swedish and English.
