The layoffs, which would be for a maximum of 90 days during 2026, cover the entire staff of the sawmills — approximately 350 people.
Nov. 12, 2025 - Metsä Fibre said that it will start change negotiations on possible layoffs at the company's four sawmills in Finland — Lappeenranta, Rauma, Renko and Vilppula.
The layoffs, which would be for a maximum of 90 days during 2026, cover the entire staff of the sawmills — approximately 350 people.
"The negotiations are prompted by challenging market conditions for sawn timber and harvesting, which have created a need for production downtime," Metsä Fibre said in a press release.
Metsä Fibre is Finland's largest producer of sawn timber with 100 percent of the logs used in its sawmills coming from certified forests.
Metsä Fibre is Metsä Group's pulp and sawmill business. In addition to pulp and sawn timber, Metsä Fibre also produces bioproducts such as biochemicals and bioenergy.
