Sofidel to Expand Tissue Capacity in U.S with Installation of New TAD Tissue Machine

Valmet TAD tissue machine Sofidel's investment includes the installation of a Valmet TAD (Through-Air-Dried) tissue machine, along with related converting lines for the manufacture of finished products.

Oct. 16, 2025 - Sofidel has announced plans to expand its tissue production capacity in the United States with an investment that includes the installation of a Valmet TAD (Through-Air-Dried) tissue machine, along with related converting lines for the manufacture of finished products.

Sofidel said the decision to install the new machine, which will have the capacity to produce 75,000 metric tons per year of tissue, is based on the growing demand in the North American market.

The location for the machine, intended to be within one of Sofidel's existing U.S. facilities, has not yet been finalized. The company is currently engaging with various public authorities to finalize the project.

"With this new, significant investment, we are putting down even stronger roots in the United States, improving our ability to meet customer demand and further enhancing our capacity to supply first-quality products through TAD technology," said Luigi Lazzareschi, CEO of Sofidel.

Start-up of the new machine is scheduled for Q2 2028.

In September, Sofidel successfully started up a Valmet DCT 200 tissue machine, PM3, at its integrated paper mill in Circleville, Ohio, boosting the number of machines at Circleville to three.

Overall, the Sofidel Group now operates 14 production sites across 11 US states — Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Illinois, Mississippi, Florida, Ohio, South Carolina, and North Carolina — and has a corporate office in Horsham, Pennsylvania. In just over 10 years, the Group has become the fourth-largest tissue producer in the North American market and one of the leaders in the Private Label sector.

Sofidel, based in Porcari (Lucca, Italy), is one of the leading manufacturers of tissue paper with an overall production capacity of 1,852,000 metric tons per year (these numbers also include the acquisition of ST Paper and Clearwater Paper's tissue operations in the U.S. in 2024).
