Sept. 29, 2025 - Metsä Fibre's Rauma mills (Finland) will undergo an annual maintenance shutdown, during which the pulp mill and sawmill will carry out the necessary service, cleaning and maintenance work as well as installations to improve the efficiency of the operations of both plants and the mill integrate.
The maintenance shutdown at the Rauma sawmill will take place in September and October. The maintenance shutdown proceeds from one department to another, starting with the sorting of logs, proceeding to the sawmill department, sorting, drying and ending with packaging. The sawmill's annual maintenance shutdown will end in mid-October.
The halt of production at the pulp mill will begin on Saturday, 4 October 2025. Production at the pulp mill will be started at the end of week 42. Shutdowns and ramp-ups of the mill may cause odours to the surroundings of the mill area.

"Overall safety increases and risks are reduced when processes are in order. In addition to our own personnel, Metsä Group's Rauma mills employ 1,000 representatives of our partners. With proactive safety work, we ensure everyone's safety at work."
The Rauma pulp mill produces softwood pulp as its main product for paperboard, tissue and printing papers, as well as special products. The specialty of the Rauma mill is Metsä Strong pulp, which, as the name suggests, is strong bleached softwood pulp. It is used in magazine papers, food, construction and packaging papers, and pharmaceutical papers, among others. The annual capacity of the pulp mill is 650,000 tonnes of softwood pulp. The pulp mill employs 190 people directly and more than 1500 people indirectly in the direct value chain.
The Rauma sawmill, which started operating in 2022, is a pioneer in terms of technology, efficiency and operating models. Sawmill technology innovations, such as machine vision, learning artificial intelligence and an integrated information system that controls the various functions of the sawmill line, are new in the sawmill industry. The sawmill's annual capacity is 750,000 cubic metres of pine sawn timber. The sawmill employs 110 people directly and 500 indirectly in the direct value chain.
