June 4, 2025 - Feldmuehle, a German manufacturer of coated label papers and flexible packaging papers, has filed for insolvency under self-administration and seeks to restructure under the German Insolvency Act.
The company explained that it "has been adversely and unforeseeably affected this current year due to the difficult situation in the energy markets, by unexpected increased energy costs and procurement prices for raw materials. During the current year, management has implemented extensive measures to increase operating profitability.
"Despite these efforts, the latently rising variable costs could not be offset by implemented price increases, partly due to the company's lower-than-expected revenues," Feldmuehle said in a written statement.
"Considering these circumstances, the management has decided to carry out the necessary reorganization/restructuring of the company within the framework of insolvency proceedings under its own administration and, on May 26th, 2025, filed for an application with the competent local court in Pinneberg to open insolvency proceedings under its own administration," the company said.
Andreas Romey of law firm Eckert Rechtsanwa?lte Steuerberater Partnergesellschaf in Hamburg has been appointed as provisional administrator on May 27.
He will examine the financial situation and supervise Feldmuehle's management.
Feldmuehle said that restructuring within the framework of self-administration gives the company's management the opportunity to undertake and respectively implement all necessary measures to improve profitability and thus to take measures towards the company's sustainable competitiveness.
Feldmuehle operates one paper mill in Uetersen, north of Hamburg. The mill produces about 80,000 tons per year of paper.
