May 22, 2025 - Rottneros today announced that it is reducing its workforce by 26 people. The jobs include employees from Rottneros Mill in Sunne (Sweden) and within Group functions.
Rottneros Mill manufactures thermomechanical pulp (CTMP) and has the capacity to produce 165,000 tons per year. The pulp is used in the production of cardboard, packaging, tissue paper, filters and fiber cement.
At the end of March, Rottneros had anticipated a reduction of 47 positions, but after talks with union representatives, that number dropped to 26.
Rottneros said the reduction in its workforce was necessary in order to handle market fluctuations and volatile electricity prices, which lead to the decision to go from six work shifts at Rottneros Mill to five shifts.
"It is difficult to have to give a notice of redundancy in the run-up to the summer, although it is positive that we have landed in significantly fewer redundancies than we feared when we entered negotiations at the end of March," said Lennart Eberleh, CEO of Rottneros.
"With this solution, we can easily gear up when the market turns, and the large investments we have made in Rottneros Mill will be profitable. We must not forget that the history of Rottneros Mill is several hundred years old. We also have that view when we look ahead," Eberleh said.
Trygghetsfonden and TRR are involved, as is Sunne municipality, to support those affected in finding new employment, Rottneros added.
Rottneros consists of two pulp producing units in Sweden — Rottneros Mill (Sunne) and Vallvik Mill (Vallvik). Also part of the Group are Rottneros Packaging AB, which produces moulded fibre, Nykvist Skogs AB and SIA Rottneros Baltic, who provide the Group with raw material.
