May 5, 2025 - Mondi announced that following the start-up of its state-of-the-art paper machine at its Steti mill (Czech Republic) in December 2024, early production runs have demonstrated excellent results in terms of strength, runnability and consistent quality.
The new machine produces about 210,000 tonnes per year of sack kraft paper used for various applications such as construction and industrial bags.
Mondi first announced plans to invest EUR 400 million in the installation of the new paper machine at Steti mill in October of 2022. The investment forms part of the Mondi's EUR 1 billion expansionary capital investment program to accelerate growth in sustainable packaging.
"We are delighted to have started production on this paper machine," said Roman Senecky, COO Kraft Paper, Mondi. "The new machine enables Mondi to meet the rising demand for paper-based flexible packaging while strengthening the Group's vertically integrated Paper Bags business. It also supports the optimization of production efficiency across the Group's entire kraft paper portfolio."
The start-up marks an important milestone in Mondi's journey towards making all packaging solutions reusable, recyclable, or compostable, the company noted.
Mondi is a global leader in packaging and paper, contributing to a better world by producing products that are sustainable by design.
