May 29, 2025 - The Swedish Forest Agency reported that roundwood prices increased for both sawlog and pulpwood during the first quarter of 2025 in comparison with the fourth quarter of 2024. The sawlog price increased by 11 percent and pulpwood by 5 percent. This is shown in the Swedish Forest Agency's statistics on roundwood prices for delivery timber.
Regionally, the greatest increase in sawlog prices was in Svealand by 12 percent, followed by Götaland with 11 percent. In Södra Norrland, the sawlog prices increased by almost 6 percent while the prices in Norra Norrland increased by 5 percent compared to the last quarter of 2024. Regarding pulpwood prices, the greatest increase was in Norra Norrland by 15 percent followed by Götaland with an increase of 5 percent. The increase in Svealand amounted to 4 percent while the decrease in Södra Norrland were 1 percent.
If focus is instead shifted to comparing with the same quarter last year, then the trend of increasing roundwood prices continues. Sawlog prices overall increased by almost 30 percent. Regionally, the sawlog prices increased by 34 percent in Götaland followed by Svealand with 32 percent. In Södra Norrland and Norra Norrland prices also increased, by 20 and 16 percent respectively, compared to the first quarter of 2024.
Pulpwood prices overall increased by 23 percent in comparison with the first quarter of 2024. The increase was greatest in Svealand and Götaland by almost 27 percent, followed by Södra Norrland and Norra Norrland by almost 15 and 14 percent respectively.
Delivery timber refers to a delivery method where the forest owner, either personally or with the help of employees or contractors, delivers the timber to a roadside. Delivery timber is estimated to account for less than 10 percent of total sold quantity.
Average prices are volume-weighted roundwood quantities, presented in current prices without adjustments for inflation.
