June 4, 2024 - Progroup on May 7 officially took over Sappi's Stockstadt pulp and paper mill in Germany after initially signing an agreement with Sappi in November of 2023.

The Stockstadt Mill is an integrated mill with a production capacity of 220,000 tpy of coated and uncoated woodfree paper and 145,000 tpy of pulp (for internal use). Progroup intends to convert the mill's production to recycled containerboard.

According to Progroup, the selective dismantling of the mill will begin shortly with work expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Progroup also plans to construct a waste-to-energy plant at the site of the mill. This plant would consume waste materials produced in the paper mill and in other recycling processes in the region and convert those materials into energy, providing the mill with the power and process heat it requires.

Progroup AG, based in Landau, Germany, is one of the leading manufacturers of containerboard and corrugated board in Europe. The company has production sites in six countries in Central Europe. These currently include three paper mills, twelve corrugated sheetfeeder plants, a logistics company and a waste-to-energy plant.
