Opus Packaging Acquires Mall City Containers in Kalamazoo, Michigan

Mall City Containers Mall City Containers is a corrugated sheet plant that produces a variety of packaging solutions such as industrial brown box packaging, labeled or printed packaging, Point-of-Purchase displays, or specialty packs and partitions.

Sept. 29, 2021 - Opus Packaging Group recently acquired Mall City Containers located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The acquisition was finalized on September 1.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mall City was started in 1974 by a team of investors that bought Mead Paper Company's sheet plant in Kalamazoo. Over its history, Mall City has been a company of steady, solid growth that has excelled in meeting and exceeding customers' expectations.

Mall City hosts just over 60 employees while operating out of one manufacturing facility and an offsite warehouse.

The addition of Mall City is the 6th manufacturing facility for Opus, which is comprised of Opus Packaging - New Bremen (New Bremen, OH; Loudon, TN), Opus Packaging - Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids, MI), Opus Packaging - Jackson (Jackson, MI), Opus Packaging - Indianapolis (Indianapolis, IN), Opus Packaging - Wabash (Mt Carmel, IL) and now Opus Packaging - Kalamazoo, LLC d/b/a Mall City Containers (Kalamazoo, MI).

In a press release, Opus said, "The acquisition of Mall City strengthens our product portfolio and our ability to service our customers in the Midwest United States. Opus Packaging Group has been providing innovative packaging solutions to its customers since 1984. Our vision of becoming a world class provider in packaging solutions while leading in the markets we serve will be greatly enhanced by the acquisition of Mall City.
