FEFCO Names Eleni Despotou as Its New Secretary General

Feb. 1, 2021 - The European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) announced the appointment of Eleni Despotou as the new Secretary General, effective 1 February 2021. She succeeds Angelika Christ, who served as FEFCO Secretary General since 2007 and will retire.

Despotou has an in-depth knowledge of the European Union Institutions and Industry Associations with a long-standing experience of more than 20 years in association management and public affairs. Before joining FEFCO, she held a number of positions of responsibility in various industries including energy-intensive ones, renewables and minerals.

Over the years, Despotou has gained extensive expertise on Climate Change, Energy, Circular Economy, Sustainability, Innovation, Industrial Policy issues as well as the Green Deal. She has participated in many expert and high-level groups of the European Institutions.

Despotou holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering, a Bachelor and Master's degree in Political Sciences and is currently pursuing a MSc in Global Energy and Climate Policy.

"The Board is confident that together with its European members, Eleni will strengthen FEFCO's position on the Brussels scene and continue raising awareness about the importance of the Corrugated Board industry among its key stakeholders," said Fady Gemayel, FEFCO President. Gemayel also thanked Angelika Christ for her outstanding achievements over the years, leaving an undeniable presence on FEFCO. "We are all grateful for the many years of dedication in serving our industry with utmost professionalism and contagious passion and wish her a well-deserved and serene retirement."

Headquartered in Brussels, FEFCO (European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers) represents the interests of the European Corrugated Board Manufacturers. FEFCO has 17 Association members, all European national corrugated packaging organisations. The role of the Federation is to investigate economic, financial, technical and policy issues of interest to the corrugated packaging industry, to analyse all factors which may influence the industry, and promote and develop its reputation.
