Mayr-Melnhof Group Appoints Päivi Suutari as New Managing Director of MM Kotkamills

Sept. 9, 2021 - The MM (Mayr-Melnhof) Group has appointed Päivi Suutari (58, M.Sc.) as the new Managing Director of MM Kotkamills, effective Oct. 1, 2021. Suutari succeeds MM Kotkamills CEO Markku Hämäläinen, who is leaving the company on a positive note.

Peter Oswald, CEO of MM Group, commented, "I am pleased to announce Päivi Suutari's appointment as Managing Director of MM Kotkamills. She is an experienced leader and is familiar with international integration situations. Her task now is to work with the MM Group to create a joint strategy enabling the Group to take a leading position in the virgin fibre cartonboard market and to continue the successful production of saturating kraft paper and sawn timber."

Suutari has worked for more than 30 years in the cartonboard and packaging industry (Stora Enso and Huhtamaki) and brings a wealth of experience leading businesses and people in several countries in Europe and Asia. She joined Kotkamills in 2019 as Vice President for Research, Development and Innovation and has played a key role in advancing the company's development and innovation activities.

The Mayr-Melnhof Group acquired Kotkamills on August 2, 2021. Kotkamills produces virgin fiber based cartonboard and Food Service Board and operates two paper machines at its integrated mill in Kotka in southern Finland.
