July 20, 2020 - Progroup said that it has entered the final phase of construction of its new paper mill in Sandersdorf-Brehna, Germany. The mill is home to PM3, a containerboard machine with the capacity to produce 750,000 tonnes per year from 100% recovered paper. Progroup said the final phase of the project involved the cleaning of the steam system of the boiler house, and the company expects the start-up of PM3 to take place at the end of August. Progroup noted that it is paying particular attention to the issue of sustainability in constructing and operating the paper mill. Out of the total investment of 465 million euros, more than 100 million euros are being invested solely in resource-conserving technologies. For example, the integrated circulating water treatment plant operates like a biological kidney and cleans the water used by the mill. The plant will make it possible to reduce the amount of fresh water that needs to be used by around 80 percent compared to similar mills. It also produces energy — specifically biogas — which is fed into the boiler house to help power the paper machine.
