Suzano Completes Acquisition of Brazilian Tissue Producer Facepa

FACEPA - tissue paper mill FACEPA produces and markets a wide range of paper products including paper towels, napkins, diapers, toilet paper and tissues under various brands, with a strong presence in the Northern and Northeastern regions of Brazil.

March 1, 2018 - Suzano announced that it has completed its acquisition of Brazil's Facepa (Fábrica de Papel da Amazônia S.A.), a company that operates tissue mills in Belém, Pará and in Fortaleza, Ceará. With the acquisition, Suzano becomes the third largest manufacturer of sanitary (tissue) papers in Brazil, with a prominent position in the country's North and Northeast regions.

“We want to be a market leader in the North and Northeast by the end of this year. To achieve this, we will expand the local offering of high quality products and further strengthen relations with our clients,” said Fabio Prado, Consumer Goods Executive Officer.

The deal will combine Suzano's toilet paper brand Max Pure® with Facepa's product lines under brands such as Le Blanc® and Floral®, whose tissue paper portfolio also includes napkins and paper towels.

Combined, the annual installed capacity of the four mills is some 170,000 tons of tissue paper.

In a press release Suzano said, “To become one of the largest producers in this market in Brazil, we invested around R$850 million in building two mills and in acquiring Facepa. We invested R$540 million in our Mucuri and Imperatriz Units and approximately R$310 million in the acquisition of Facepa. At our units, the annual production of 120,000 tons is divided between finished goods and papers sold in jumbo rolls.”
