Sappi to Invest EUR 30 Million in Paper Machine Modernization Project at Gratkorn Mill
Jan. 22, 2018 - Sappi today announced plans to invest EUR 30 million in an upgrade project that involves paper machine 9 at the company's Gratkorn Mill in Austria.
Sappi said PM 9 will be modernized with a focus on reducing the machine's energy requirements. In addition, the upgrade will optimize the use of raw materials to reduce production costs.
“In addition to the renewal of important components on the paper machine, the significant improvement in energy efficiency is another milestone in our efforts to achieve sustainable business,” said Max Oberhumer, Mill Director of Sappi Gratkorn.
Steffen Wurdinger, VP Manufacturing, R&D and Technology of Sappi Europe added, “The approved investment consolidates Sappi Europe's position in this product segment. The reliability of the product quality as well as the machine's competitiveness will be strengthened through this project.”
The project is scheduled for the first half of 2019 and will be carried out in cooperation with Valmet.
