Domtar Donates Diapers to Hurricane Relief Efforts in Texas
Domtar colleagues Richard Graham, left, and James Faulkner Jr. helped gather diapers to support hurricane relief efforts in Texas.
August 31, 2017 (Press Release) - As residents of Texas and Louisiana cope with historic flooding from Hurricane Harvey, Domtar is assisting hurricane relief efforts by donating diapers, an essential and often overlooked item.
Families have many needs during and after natural disasters. We know we can't meet all of them, but we can provide personal hygiene products to people as they recover from these difficult events thanks to our distribution partner Good360, a global leader in product philanthropy and purposeful giving.
Hundreds of thousands of Texans were ordered to evacuate as Hurricane Harvey neared landfall, and shelters filled quickly. Many people have already lost their homes; others might not be able to return to their homes for weeks or months. Hurricane relief efforts help ensure that these families get essential items while they are displaced.
Good360 is distributing more than 135,000 Domtar baby diapers, sizes 0-6, in Houston and in other cities where people have found shelter, such as Waco. Good360 is also partnering with The Goodness Outreach Depot, a trusted organization that is working with response groups and shelters in areas affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Domtar's donation is part of our Comfort and Care diaper assistance program, which helps alleviate the financial and emotional stress of families who struggle to afford diapers and incontinence products. We make several personal hygiene products at our Personal Care facility in Waco, including Comfees baby diapers. Offering these products to hurricane relief efforts in a state where we also do business is an opportunity to help our neighbors and demonstrate our core corporate values.
“We are all touched by the suffering we see in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, and we are proud to play a small part in helping these families,” said Heather Stowe, Domtar's corporate social responsibility manager. “We hope that this contribution will meet a simple but essential need for families and children who have had to leave their homes. And we'll continue to look for opportunities to support them in their recovery from this disaster.”
