Congressional Action Needed To End
EU Taxation on U.S. Exports. In March, the European Union imposed a five-percent tariff on more than 1,600 U.S. manufactured goods. This tariff has increased one percentage point each month since March and could increase to 17 percent early next year. Bi-partisan bills have been approved by both the House and Senate that would ease taxation on U.S. manufacturing. It is now up to Congress to pass this important legislation and prevent what may become a non-competitive arena for U.S exports in Europe.
Can Pulp Markets Remain Strong Into Fall? Increased demand from printing & writing paper mills and exports to China have kept pulp supplies tight, but a confusing mid-year rise in inventories could cause pricing battles.
