Feb. 7, 2020 (Press Release) - Metsä Tissue announced in September 2019 that it plans to invest in increasing fresh fibre-based tissue paper production at its Mariestad mill in Sweden.

BHM Ingenieure (BHM Engineering) has been chosen as a partner for the project's technical pre-engineering. The technical pre-engineering is expected to be completed by the end of 2020 with aim to create the preconditions for the final investment decision that could be made during the second quarter of 2021 at the earliest.

In September 2019, Metsä Tissue started an environmental permit process to study and create preconditions to double the company's tissue paper production in Mariestad. The first part of the study consists construction of new paper machine, converting lines, automated warehouse and office building at the Mariestad mill site. The value of the possible investments is approximately EUR 230 million and in the first phase, they would increase Mariestad's annual tissue paper production capacity by 50,000 tonnes fully as of 2024.
