Expera Specialty Solutions' Nicolet Mill Recognized for Energy Efficiency

Expera Nicolet Mill personnel Representatives from the Public Service Commission, Focus on Energy, WPS, and Wisconsin Assembly Representative Andre Jacque were on-hand on June 28 to recognize the Nicolet Team Members.

July 1, 2018 - Expera Specialty Solutions earned an Energy Efficiency Excellence Award from Focus on Energy for its commitment to reduce energy waste at its Nicolet Mill in De Pere, Wisconsin.

Focus on Energy is Wisconsin utilities' statewide energy efficiency and renewable resource program funded by the state's investor-owned energy utilities and participating municipal and electric cooperative utilities.

The Nicolet mill, a manufacturer of tailored specialty paper grades, was the only industrial company to receive this honor this year.

According to Expera, the Nicolet mill has been active in identifying and implementing energy reduction projects, and as part of the Focus on Energy grant program, has worked with Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) and Focus on Energy on assessments of their processes, and has integrated many energy-saving changes based on the assessment results.

Recent energy efficiency projects at Nicolet include LED lighting upgrades, steam system management upgrades, and installing more efficient agitators and pulper rotors.

“Without that support from Focus on Energy, a good portion of those projects wouldn't have happened,” said Nicolet Mill Manager, Chris Williams. “It's a win for the mill, a win for the community, and a win for the environment.”
