Michael Doss, President and Chief Executive Officer of Graphic Packaging Holding Company.
March 8, 2018 - PaperAge announced that Mike Doss, President and Chief Executive Officer of Graphic Packaging Holding Company is the recipient of PaperAge's 31st annual "Executive Papermaker of the Year" award. An exclusive interview with Mr. Doss will be published in the March/April 2018 issue of PaperAge magazine.
In October of 2017, Doss announced the forming of a new partnership comprised of Graphic Packaging's existing businesses and International Paper's North America Consumer Packaging business, whereas Graphic Packaging would own 79.5 percent of the partnership and will be the sole operator, while IP would own 20.5 percent of the partnership. The combination was completed on Jan. 1, 2018.
"We are very enthusiastic about the platform for future growth created by this combination and expect the transaction will significantly increase our mill production and converting scale," said Doss. “The combination meaningfully increases our exposure to the growing foodservice market, provides significant runway to realize synergies, and will drive strong financial results."
IP's business includes two SBS mills located in Augusta, Georgia and Texarkana, Texas with annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons of SBS, three converting facilities in the U.S. and one in the U.K., with the capacity to convert 250,000 tons of SBS paperboard into over 24 billion units of paper-based cups and cylindrical containers.
Also in 2017, Graphic Packaging closed the acquisitions of three folding carton producers: Carton Craft (USA), Norgraft (Spain), and Seydaco (Canada). The deals follow Graphic Packaging's acquisition strategy to grow its folding carton volume in attractive geographies and end-markets, improve its cost position, and increase its mill to converting plant integration levels over time.
PaperAge selects its Executive Papermaker of the Year based on corporate vision, strategic objectives and strong leadership both within the individual's company and in the paper industry as a whole. The award has been an industry tradition since 1988.
