Fire Rages in Recycled Cardboard Outside Storage Area at Smurfit Kappa's Birmingham Mill

April 18, 2013 - UK-based Sky News reported that a "severe" fire at an outdoor recycled paper storage area at Smurfit Kappa's containerboard mill in the city of Birmingham, England, continues to burn.

According to the report, thousands of tons of cardboard have been burning at the mill in the Nechells area of the city since late last night.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire, which started just after 10pm on Wednesday night, is expected to take a couple of days to burn out, a fire service spokesman told Sky news.

He tweeted that the fire is "in a very large outdoor storage area. Approx. 10,000 tons of recycled cardboard bales are ablaze.
