Norske Skog to Convert Newsprint Machine in Tasmania to LWC Grades

Dec. 17, 2012 - Metso said that it will supply Norske Skog with a grade conversion rebuild for PM 2 at Norske Skog's Boyer mill in Tasmania, Australia. The grade conversion will be from newsprint to lightweight coated (LWC) grades.

The value of the order was not disclosed.

Metso's delivery will include a rebuild of the existing machine calender and a new ValSizer sizing section, a coating preparation and supply system, a TurnDry Compact air dryer, an OptiLoad calender, a ValReel reeler, a WinBelt C winder and parent roll handling equipment.

PM 2's production capacity after the rebuild will be 140,000 tonnes per year of lightweight coated grades, Metso said.

The rebuilt production line will be fully operational after several phases of the rebuild project during the first quarter of 2014.
