Cardboard Makers in Japan Raided on Suspicion of Forming Illegal Cartel

June 12, 2012 - The Japan Fair Trade Commission searched about 40 offices of dozens of corrugated board makers [on June 5] on suspicion of forming an illegal price cartel over the sale of their products in Tochigi, Gunma and Saitama prefectures in eastern Japan, commission officials said.

Among the makers were Rengo Co., the largest cardboard maker based in Osaka, Tomoku Co. based in Tokyo, Dynapac Co. of Nagoya, and affiliates of major paper makers Oji Paper Co. and Daio Paper Corp.

FTC investigators also raided the office of an industry group, the Eastern Corrugated Case Association, in Tokyo.
