Softwood Pulp Prices in Europe Expected to Continue Downward Slide

Dec. 14, 2011 - Prices continued to slide down in the European pulp market in December and the trend is likely to continue unbroken, says EUWID.

According to EUWID, seasonally lower demand in December, uncertainty in the business climate as well as inability and unwillingness on the part of pulp mills to initiate production cuts are reasons for the developments.

While hardwood pulp producers are trying to increase their prices, market players are convinced that the downward trend will persist in the case of softwood pulp, EUWID said.

NBSK prices are expected to recede further in December. The drop will be similar to the one in November, manufacturers say, EUWID added.
