U.S. Kraft Paper Shipments Down in June, Year/Year

July 19, 2011 - The American Forest & Paper Association released its June 2011 Kraft Paper Sector Report, which showed total Kraft paper shipments were 135.1 thousand tons, a decrease of 3.5% compared to June 2010, but up 2.5% when compared to May 2011. Total inventory was 62.6 thousand tons.

Additional key findings from the report include:

  • Total Unbleached Kraft shipments decreased compared to June 2010.
  • Total Bleached Kraft shipments were up compared to the same month last year for the fifth time in 2011.

The American Forest & Paper Association (www.afandpa.org) is the national trade association of the forest products industry, representing pulp, paper, packaging and wood products manufacturers, and forest landowners.

The forest products industry accounts for approximately 5 percent of the total U.S. manufacturing GDP. Industry companies produce about $175 billion in products annually and employ nearly 900,000 men and women, exceeding employment levels in the automotive, chemicals and plastics industries.
