Sodra to Hike Price for NBSK in Europe to USD 1040 per Tonne

May 6, 2011 - Sodra Cell today said that it will increase the price for its northern bleached softwood kraft pulp (NBSK) in Europe by USD 30 to $1040 per tonne, effective June 1.

This is the third price hike Sodra has announced since the beginning of the year.

During January and February, the price of NBSK stood at $950 per tonne. In February, Sodra announced a $30 increase effective March 1 that set the price at $980/tonne, which was followed by another $30 hike effective April 1 — moving the price up to $1010/tonne.

Sodra’s production of pulp takes place at five different pulp mills (Sweden and Norway) with a total capacity of 2.1 million tonnes/year, of which just over 100,000 tonnes is mechanical pulp (CTMP) and the rest bleached sulphate pulp. The entire production is sold on the open market to external paper mills.

Sodra is the world’s third largest supplier of market pulp.
