Jan. 21, 2011 - Domtar yesterday celebrated the start-up of its newly installed 50 megawatt bio-fueled steam turbine generator at its Marlboro mill in South Carolina. The company invested approximately $40 million in 2010 to complete this project.

In addition, Domtar has entered into a 15-year agreement with Santee Cooper, South Carolina's state-owned electric company, for the purchase of up to 50 megawatts of green power. The renewable energy generated by the turbine would be enough to power roughly 31,000 South Carolina homes.

The Marlboro mill produces uncoated freesheet and bleached hardwood and softwood kraft market pulp on one paper machine and one pulp line. The mill has an annual paper production capacity of 391,000 tons and pulp production capacity of 356,000 tonnes.
