U.S. Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Down in October
Nov. 22, 2010 - According to the American Forest & Paper Association’s October 2010 Printing-Writing Paper Report, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 4% in October compared to October 2009. Two of the four major printing-writing grades posted increases compared to last October. U.S. purchases (shipments + imports – exports) of printing-writing papers decreased, down 7% in October.
Total printing-writing paper inventory levels remained essentially flat compared to September 2010.
Some additional key findings include:
- Uncoated free sheet (UFS) shipment year-over-year decline is the deepest in current five month year-over-year decrease.
- Coated free sheet (CFS) shipments increase year-over-year for the twelfth consecutive month.
- Coated mechanical (CM) year-to-date shipments lead 2009 for the tenth consecutive month.
- Uncoated mechanical (UM) shipments increase year-over-year for the ninth time in 2010.
