U.S. Containerboard Production Up in February

March 17, 2010 - The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its February 2010 U.S. Containerboard Statistics Report, which showed total containerboard paper production again rose sharply when compared to same month last year.

Total U.S. containerboard production in February 2010 was up 208,400 tons, or 8.9%, over February 2009.

Though total production amount decreased compared to January 2010, the daily average percent change was up 1.8% due to number of days in February, AF&PA's said.

For the first two months of 2010, containerboard production has increased 13.9% over 2009.

The recent reduction in capacity continues to be reflected in the current operating rates, AF&PA noted.

The containerboard operating rate for February 2010 rose 12.3 points to 95.0% compared to February 2009.
