SCA Inaugurates New Tissue Mill in Russia

Feb. 16, 2010 - SCA said that its CEO, Jan Johansson, along with Tula governor Vyasheslav Dudka and the Ambassador of Sweden in Russia H.E. Tomas Bertelman were present at an inauguration ceremony for SCA's new tissue mill in the Tula region south of Moscow.

According to SCA, the mill is the first greenfield tissue mill in Russia since the 1970s.

“I am glad to witness the full start-up of the Sovetsk tissue mill. It is a great example of the successful long-term collaboration between the Tula region administration and foreign investors such as SCA,” said Governor Dudka. “The opening of SCA's tissue mill in Sovetsk, along with a second personal care factory in Veniov, has revived the related sectors and provided new jobs in the region.”

SCA will produce Libero baby diapers and TENA incontinence care products at the new facility.

SCA's chief executive Jan Johansson noted, "We are one step closer to growing our business in Russia and now have all the elements in place to do so."

The initial production phase is planned for completion in the second quarter of 2010. The paper machine has an estimated production capacity of 30,000 tones and will utilize recovered paper, SCA said.
