U.S. Paperboard Production Down in December 2009
Feb. 3, 2010 - The American Forest & Paper Association reported that total production of U.S. paperboard in December 2009 decreased by 88,300 tons or 8.0% from November totals.
The Association's December 2009 Paperboard Report said that total paperboard production decreased by 2.3% in December 2009 compared to December 2008.
According to the report, production of Unbleached Kraft Folding saw a decrease of 10.9% in production from December 2008. Decemberís production decreased 14.9% over November 2009.
In December, Solid Bleached Folding production fell 12.2% from December '08 and remained absolutely flat when compared to November '09. Solid Bleached Packaging operated at 86.2% capacity in December 2009, down 4.8 points from November 2009, and down 5.5 points from December 2008.
Recycled Folding rose 18.2% over December 2008, but fell 7.7% against November 2009 production. Recycled Board operated at 83.9% capacity in December, 2009, down from 89.4% in November 2009, and up 11.4 points over December 2008.
The current inventories of Solid Bleached Kraft Paperboard increased 2.1% when compared to December 2008, but fell 1,131 tons or 0.3% over November 2009.
