Ahlstrom Plans Closure of Filter Paper Machine in Barcelona
Nov. 6, 2009 - Ahlstrom said that it has started talks with representatives of employees at the company's paper mill in Barcelona, Spain about the possible closure of a paper machine that produces filtration materials.
The negotiations concern all employees of the plant excluding the sales office, Ahlstrom said.
The plant employs 92 people, 10 of which work at the sales office.
Ahlstrom said the possible closure of the machine would affect approximately 45 positions — including blue- and white-collar employees.
The Barcelona mill produces filtration media for transportation and liquid applications. In addition to the paper machine, the plant operates a saturator, slitter winders, liquid converters and a warehouse, which would not impacted by the machine closure, Ahlstrom said.
Ahlstrom initiated a global restructuring program in April of this year due to the global overcapacity in some filtration materials.
