Cascades Inaugurates Lachute Mill for Green Project
Oct. 20, 2009 - Cascades yesterday held an inauguration of the expansion of its tissue mill located in Lachute, Quebec, Canada.
The Premier of Quebec, Jean Charest, and MP of Argenteuil, David Whissell were in attendance.
The expansion project, with an investment value of C$15 million, was eligible for a loan of $3.1 million from Investissement Quebec and financial assistance $379,000 from Emploi-Quebec.
Cascades said that the project is the first in its category in North America to be awarded LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-NC (New Construction) certification.
The LEED certification recognizes buildings that are of high environmental quality and that meet stringent performance standards, notably in terms of energy, water consumption and the use of local materials, Cascades noted.
