Kruger Plans Downtime at Corner Brook Newsprint Mill

Sept. 29, 2009 - Kruger Inc. said that it will take market-related downtime at its Corner Brook (Newfoundland, Canada) newsprint mill for a period of two weeks starting October 12, with production to resume on October 26.

Kruger said unfavorable market conditions, particularly the high value of the Canadian dollar and the low price of newsprint, prompted its decision to take out capacity.

The curtailment will affect 530 employees — 380 in the mill and 150 in forest operations — for a period of 14 days.

The Corner Brook mill has an annual capacity to produce 430,000 metric tons of newsprint and 50, 000 metric tons of thermomechanical recycled pulp.
