NBSK Price Jumps on Favorable Supply/Demand Balance

Sept. 8, 2009 - The price for NBSK in the U.S. increased by over $30 per ton on global tightness in market pulp supply, according to price indexer FOEX.

FOEX said the price for NBSK in the U.S. jumped to 752.22 per ton, an increase of $32.70 from last week's price.

A partial recovery in paper manufacturers' order books in July that appears to be continuing through August has helped to bolster demand, FOEX said.

However, FOEX cautioned that a number of pulp lines are slated to come back on line in the next few weeks, along with kraft mills running up production to take advantage of the alternative fuel tax credit (black liquor production) will push more pulp into the market.
