Portucel Soporcel's New Mill Begins Production Trials in Portugal
Aug. 28, 2009 - The Portucel Soporcel group said that it has started production trials at its new EUR 550 million Setubal paper mill in Portugal.
Production trials on the mill's new machine started on August 15, the company said.
The new machine has a design speed of 1,800 meters per minute and an annual capacity to produce 500,000 tons of uncoated woodfree printing and writing papers.
The mill will be inaugurated by the President of the Republic in November, Portucel Soporcel said.
Based in Portugal, the Portucel Soporcel group is a major European producer of UWF (Uncoated Woodfree Paper), and also the largest producer in Europe, and one of the largest in the world, of bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp
(BEKP). The group has an annual production capacity of 1.55 million tons of paper and 1.35 million tons of pulp (of which approximately 765,000 thousand tons is used internally for paper production).
