Paperboard Production Decreased in May
June 19, 2009 - According to the American Forest & Paper Associationís May, 2009 Paperboard Report, total paperboard production decreased by 14.3% in May, 2009 compared to last May, 2008. Total production, however, increased from April totals by 15,100 tons or 1.5%.
Unbleached Kraft Folding decreased in May 2009. Unbleached Kraft Folding posted a 6.8% increase in production from April, 2009. Compared to May, 2008, Unbleached Kraft Folding decreased 14.4%.
Solid Bleached Folding production decreased from previous year. Current month production decreased 18.1% when compared to May, 2008. Solid Bleached Folding rose 4.9% in comparison to April 2009. Solid Bleached Packaging operated at 79.3% capacity in May, 2009, down 2.1 points from April, 2009, and down 15.3 points from May 2008.
Recycled Folding production was down compared to prior month. Recycled Folding was up 1.0% when compared to April 2009 and dropped 5.8% over May, 2008 production. Recycled Board operated at 84.3% capacity in May, 2009, up 2.4 points over Aprilís rate and down 8.1 points over May, 2008.
Inventories of Solid Bleached Kraft Paperboard increased. Year-ago Solid Bleached Kraft Paperboard inventories rose 19,316 tons, or 5.5 % when compared to May, 2008.
