Domtar to Restart Woodland Pulp Mill in Maine
June 10, 2009 - Domtar today said that it will be reopening its Woodland pulp mill in Baileyville, Maine.
The mill, which was idled in March because of weak global pulp demand, high inventory levels and low prices, is targeted to resume production the week of June 22, Domtar said.
About 300 employees will be called back for the restart.
Domtar said its decision to reopen the mill resulted from substantially reduced pulp inventory levels, the recent uptick in demand and pricing, and potential benefits from the Alternative Fuel Tax Credit from the production and use of black liquor.
The Woodland mill has an annual hardwood pulp production capacity of 398,000 air dry metric tons.
