Recycled Corrugated, Uncoated Paper Sluggish in France
May 27, 2009 - The market for recycled corrugated case material in France remains sluggish on weak demand, low prices and production curtailments, says EUWID in Europe.
Although there was a small up-tick in demand in April and May, it had very little effect on the overall market, EUWID said.
Seasonal order intake led to slightly fuller order books for manufacturers, but overall demand was still substantially lower than in the past two years. Suppliers have curbed their production over the past few months in the light of these conditions and have recently intensified these cutbacks, EUWID added.
Woodfree Uncoated Paper
EUWID also said suppliers on the French woodfree uncoated paper market reported that demand for their product remained flat in May.
Paper consumption has fallen in many businesses because of the weak economy, with most market observers feeling that inventory depletions could no longer play a role at present, EUWID said. Prices are consequently under pressure and have tumbled further in May, albeit to varying degrees depending on the product in question.
The A4 cut-size paper market was still a hotbed of competition, especially for C-grade paper, EUWID said.
