IP's Pineville, La. Containerboard Mill to Restart

March 4, 2009 - After taking six weeks of market-related downtime, International Paper's containerboard mill in Pineville, Louisiana will swing back into production.

According to a local news report, 180 workers returned to their jobs at the mill March 2, and production is scheduled to begin Friday, March 6.

Some 4 years ago, IP had explored alternatives—including the possible closure—for the Pineville mill as part of its transformation plan, announced in 2005. But, according to IP, the mill by mid-2007 had achieved "dramatic cost improvement ...and is now among the most globally cost efficient mills in the system."
