White Birch to Take Newsprint Downtime at Bear Island Mill
March 2, 2009 - White Birch Paper Company today said that it will take market related downtime at its Bear Island newsprint mill in Ashland, Virginia.
The planned shut-down will take place from March 8 through March 30 and result in about 15,000 metric tons of reduced newsprint production.
White Birch Paper Company is the second largest newsprint manufacturer in North America, with approximately 1.25 million metric tons of uncoated groundwood production capacity. In addition to newsprint, White Birch produces uncoated specialty paper, directory paper and paperboard at its mills located in Quebec City, Riviere-du-Loup and Gatineau, Quebec and Ashland, Virginia.
