Metso to Cut 70 Jobs in North America

Jan. 16, 2009 - Metso plans to cut approximately 70 jobs at its Paper and Fiber Technology units in the U.S. and Canada.

The reduction to its workforce is the result of a weakening of the North American market situation, which has decreased the company's workload in service and customer projects, the company said.

The job cuts will take place in the first quarter of 2009, Metso said.

The reduction affects employees in tasks related to production, procurement, product & project management, engineering, as well as sales and general administration, Metso added.

Metso Group currently employs a total of some 4000 people in North America, about 1,100 of which work in the Paper and Fiber Technology groups.
