White Birch Paper to Take Newsprint Downtime in 2009
Dec. 17, 2008 - White Birch Paper Company announced that it will take market related downtime at its four paper mills in the first quarter of 2009, resulting in the reduction of about 25,000 metric tons of newsprint.
White Birch said the capacity cuts at each mill will depend on manufacturing and delivery costs at the time.
Market conditions throughout 2009 will dictate any further production curtailments, the company said
White Birch Paper Company is the second largest newsprint manufacturer in North America, with approximately 1.25 million metric tons of uncoated groundwood production capacity. In addition to newsprint, White Birch produces uncoated specialty paper, directory paper and paperboard at its mills located in Quebec City, Riviere-du-Loup and Gatineau, Quebec and Ashland, Virginia.
