Billerud to Take Sack Paper Downtime in Sweden
Dec. 16, 2008 - Billerud said that it will take production downtime for white and brown sack paper at its Skärblacka and Karlsborg mills in Sweden from December 22 to January 7.
The downtime is being carried out in order to adjust production to reduced demand and avoid a build-up in inventories, Billerud said.
“We consider that continued production would lead to price erosion on the market that would not benefit us in any way, which is why we choose to stop production,” said Billerud's CEO Per Lindberg.
Together with other production curtailments, Billerud said this measure will mean that the overall production curtailment in the fourth quarter will amount to around 10% of total production capacity.
