Metso Paper to Cut 210 jobs in Finland in 2008

Dec. 5, 2007 - Metso Paper said that its Paper and Board business line will reduce its workforce in Finland by 210 employees.

In early October Metso announced that it would begin personnel negotiations as part of a restructuring plan.

The cuts, which are slated to begin in the first half of 2008 and conclude in some 6-18 months, will involve workers at seven Finnish locations: Anjalankoski, Hollola, Jyvaskyla, Jarvenpaa, Karhula, Turku and Valkeakoski, Metso said.

The Karhula unit will be closed, and its responsibilities transferred to other units of the Paper and Board business line, the company added.

Metso said the workforce reductions consist of pension arrangements, discontinuation of temporary employment, and redundancies due to business groups and job functions that have been merged organizationally. The company also said some personnel may be offered jobs in other Metso units.

Metso Paper employs approximately 12,000 people, of which some 4,000 work in the Finnish units of the Paper and Board business line.
