Norske Skog Considers Bigger Newsprint Capacity Cuts
Dec. 3, 2007 - Norske Skog today said it is re-evaluating future plans for newsprint capacity in Europe and is considering permanently shutting down 300,000 - 400,000 tonnes of newsprint production in 2008.
The Norwegian papermaker said it is reviewing all its paper machines to identify which can be closed permanently or rebuilt to produce other paper grades.
Previously, the company said that it intended to reduce newsprint capacity in Europe by 200,000 tonnes in 2008.
Norske Skog said a final decision will be announced at its corporate assembly in March 2008.
