Botnia's Fray Bentos Pulp Mill Up and Running

Nov. 19, 2007 - Botnia said that after one week of operation, its new pulp mill in Fray Bentos, Uruguay is running smoothly.

According to Botnia, the mill is currently producing approximately 2,000 tons per day of eucalyptus pulp and has already shipped two barge-loads. The company expects its next shipment—3,500 tons—to leave in about a week.

The mill has a design capacity to produce one million tpy.

UPM, which holds a 47% stake in Botnia, said it expects to receive batches of pulp from the mill for trials at its paper mills in China and Finland in the coming weeks.
